Road Trip: Uncle Nearest Whiskey Distillery Opening

On September 5, the Uncle Nearest officially opened the phase one of the Nearest Green Distillery in Shelbyville, Tennessee. It was an event that I knew I had to attend. About a year ago, I had a chance to tour the future site of the distillery with Fawn Weaver, the cofounder of Uncle Nearest. I was so impacted by the steps that she’d taken to launch the whiskey after she read about it in the New York Times. As I walked the land she’d selected and heard her cast her vision, I was in awe. Her dream was so big and so clear and there was no doubt in my mind that it would be accomplished.

When Fawn gave her speech at the opening, she spoke about the significance of the September 5th date. She recounted how she was drawn to the story but believes that it chose her. She mentioned that there were four people that have consistently kept the story of Uncle Nearest alive. One was, a reporter, the second was a descendant of Uncle Nearest who would sit on her porch and tell everyone in Lynchburg the story, I can’t remember the third person, and the fourth was now Fawn herself. What they all have in common is that they were born on September 5th.

Clearly, that is not a coincidence. That is synchronicity at it’s finest. It’s such a beautiful thing to witness someone on the right path. When the calling is that clear, the doors just fly open and that’s why I’m not surprised that it’s the fastest growing whiskey in American history. It was simply just meant to be.

As for the opening itself, it was beautiful. The cocktails were great, the band was great and the barbecue was also great. However, more than that, I was struck by the diversity of the audience. It really showcased the Americanness of Uncle Nearest’s story and how great of a job that this team was doing in cementing his legacy.

I left Tennessee really inspired. While I have an overall vision for my life, these past few months I’ve been feeling like I don’t know what the next step is. I was reminded that the answer will come and when it does, all I need to do is act. Until then, I’ll wait for divine timing because that’s when amazing things happen. The Universe is always right.
