Vol. 6, No. 36 | Go Where The Inspiration Takes You
I missed last week and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. I have a plan to get refocused on my writing because it really is the thing that I know will always center me.
Here's what’s going on:
The Gather 'Round festival is happening this week. It’s a new festival from the old (original) Atlanta Food and Wine team. There are still a few tickets available. Check it out here. I’ll be there!
I recently thought about the first dinner that I produced for the old Atlanta Food and Wine festival. I got to work with a chef that I'd long admired. I couldn’t have been more excited. Turns out, she’s actually not a very nice person in real life. It sucked because she comes across as this really inspiring and warm person, but is anything but. It was extremely disappointed. And unfortunately she wasn't just having a bad day. I've heard several stories since from people that have worked with her on events and in her restaurant. I don’t know the point of this story…don’t be an asshole?
I was talking to someone the other day and they were still surprised that I took the St~Germain role. They said they were surprised because it seemed like I liked doing my own thing and curating events, etc. Err, that’s exactly what I’m doing.
A few years ago I read the book, “How To Fail At Almost Everything And Still Win Big”. He mentioned a very fundamental concept that I wholeheartedly believe in: The key to work is not about your title. It's not about being an entrepreneur or not. What you need to figure out is how you like to work. For me, that means I need to do something that gives me flexibility, there has to be creativity, it has to be centered around food and or beverage, I can't be required to show up to the same place every day. I have to work with people I enjoy. Those are really my must haves. Of course I believe in entrepreneurship, but it’s a myth to believe that as an entrepreneur that you never work for someone. You work for whoever is paying you. Find out the real things that make you tick and it will never feel like work. Also, don't let ego get in the way of pursuing the things that you really want to do.
Hope you’re all well!
