Vol. 6, No. 34 | You Are Worthy
I’m in my car a lot these days and I’ve been trying to use the time to listen to things that fill me up instead of things that drain me. The other day I was listening to an Oprah Super Soul podcast on Authentic Power. During the episode, Oprah mentioned a magazine cover where she showed two images of herself, one where she was fit and the other where she was overweight.
After an email from a friend once the magazine was published she realized that her weight was “an indicator warning flashing my disconnect with the center of myself.” Her overeating was a connection to her feelings of unworthiness. As a very successful person she never doubted that she deserved her success. However, when looking back she realized that she was always an overachiever and that she overachieved to show that she belonged…to prove her worth.
“For most of us who overeat, extra pounds correspond to unresolved anxieties, frustrations, depressions which all come down to fear we haven’t worked through,” she said. “We submerge the fear in food instead of feeling it and dealing with it.”
These words really resonated with me. It’s something that I’ve realized over the past few weeks. As I mentioned, when I started this role it stirred up so many emotions and insecurities within me. I’ve gained some weight in the past few months because I was filling my frustrations and anxieties with food.
I’ve started to get more comfortable over the past few weeks and it’s because I’ve been reminding myself that I am worthy simply because I exist. Once I started doing that, I found it easier and easier to let the anxieties go and nourish my body with healthier foods. All of the cravings magically went away.
I didn’t pay too much attention to correlation until I listened to this podcast. It’s a lesson that I learned months ago, but somehow forgot. When I heard the podcast, it was a nice aha moment.
Feed your mind, body and soul with the good stuff. You are worthy.
Hope you’re all well!
